Why I felt the need to reinvent my career

I’ve had many roles during my career, but I think I’m most excited about the new path I’m taking now. I was part of a corporate restructure that resulted in a significant, and unsatisfactory, role change. It gave me time to reflect on my career and where I wanted to be in the future.

I decided I didn't want others to make decisions that affected my quality of life anymore. I want more control over my career. So decided to explore new ways of working and to set up my 'own thing'.

Sharing my career change experience

Since making this decision I’ve met women who’ve changed the way they work and set up their own businesses. They inspire me to believe I can do it too. I’ve also met women who want to change the way they work too. By sharing my experiences I hope to inspire people who are on their change journeys, here in Bluebird Boardroom.

My 5 reasons to change:

  • Without change I know exactly where I'll be in 5 years

  • I was burnt out, stressed and exhausted

  • I want control of my career decisions

  • I want to decide when I work and when I need a break

  • My corporate comfort zone was restricting my options

5 reasons I'm excited

  • I have no idea where I'll be in 5 years

  • It’s scary and challenging but I’ll learn and grow

  • I’ll meet new and interesting people

  • I'll have to ‘do’ business not just go to work

  • I'll be in control of my time, career, future and earning potential

My 5 goals for 2018

  • Choose when I work, the work I do and who I work with

  • Volunteer for causes that are important to me

  • Write and be creative in digital media

  • Focus on my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training

  • Network and collaborate with other business women while sharing my journey along the way
